I got the book for the chemistry section. How good is this book for someone who needs a full review of chemistry? I had a pretty bad prof.

I have the entire EK books but I only ended up using Orgo book. For Gen chem, Bio, and Physics book, I gave up using their books after two weeks.

However, it seems like EK books have the highest ratings, so it may be just my learning style. I like when materials are presented in conventional way and taught that way. Some of the topics in EK books are presented in somewhat random order and are not really explained in conventional way. They are also very condensed (hence the review book). So if you need to re-learn the material, this book may not be ideal.

You can read the first 2-3 lectures and see if you can follow. You can also go to a bookstore and look at a couple of other prep books. This was what I did and I should have done it earlier instead of wasting two weeks of my time.

Good luck.

Use EK if you are already good with the subject (as in you don't need much of a review). Otherwise use TPR or Kaplan books. I used EK for physics and chem when I first began studying and my scores were around a 9. After I started using TPR books, my scores were consistently 11 or 12 in the physical sciences.
My 2 cents.

LUCPM: im thinking about getting the orgo book for EK (i have a pretty solid orgo background, reactions wise) What do you think of it? Good? useful? what are its strong/weakpoints? thanks

In my opinion, they are very succint and you can basically review the entire orgo in less than a week or even less (2-3 hours a day), especially if you are already comfortable witht the reactions.

This is the only EK book I'm using, so I can't think of any weakness although this book will only serve as a good review book and time-saver for those who have strong orgo background.

I used EK biology for review, in addition to my textbook. I got 12 in Biological Science session

EK's chem book is definately lacking. The worst part is when they introduce a NEW concept in an ANSWER explanation. That book did not instill any confidence. Go with Kaplan for chem and use EK for brief review.

i have all material from ek, tpr and kaplan. i like ek for verbal and the ek 101 books for practice, tpr for physical sciences and kaplan for bio.

I agree with the above poster. I also purchased EK and did terrible when I took the MCAT for the first time. I realized I needed a lot more than what they had to offer. Now I'm using TPR, Columbia review, schaum's physics and some Kaplan. I'll do the EK 1001 books when I'm done studying.

I have been out of school for a while and realized I could not take the fast easy way out (using EK) to get a good score. So although it will take me over 6 months to relearn everything, the end result will be worth it🙂🙂
BTW I say 6 months because my 3 kids (4 with hubby) need me to cook,feed,clean....otherwhise I'de make it in less😀
