Why isn't the name of the compound:
3-ethyl-2,2-dimethylheptane?
I started numbering from the top (which gives a main chain length of 7 carbons). I started from the top because it would maximize the number of substituents in the name which I thought was a rule.
The book's answer is 3-tert-butylheptane which has less substituents in the name.
