Imagine that a cylinder were constructed with a CSA of 1 square meter and spanning from the ground to the top of the atmosphere. Now imagine that the air inside the cylinder were weighted and the mass calculated. What would be the mass? Assume 10 m/s^2 for gravity

So my logic was that the pressure is equal to atmospheric pressure (10^5 Pa); P=F/A,
P=(mg)/A

Mass = P x A x g

so mass should = 1x10^4 kg; the answer however is 1.01x10^4

Any idea where the 1.01 is coming from? Is the total pressure not just the atmospheric pressure in this case?
