Hello fellow MCAT studiers,

I have heard that EK rocks on the verbal, compared to Kaplan.

My questions are:

What else does EK seem to cover better than Kaplan?

Also, I have not gotten any EK books yet. I am confused about which ones to get. There seem to be different options. What is the difference between EK complete set vs. the 1001 question series? Are they the same thing?

Could someone provide a link to amazon or wherever pointing out which is the best EK to get if you want all the subjects covered?

Thanks,

Confused Tofurkey

I would guess the 1001 Questions series are . . . drumroll . . . questions. The EK complete set is the foundation. That is the one you want to get started. If you want reinforcement or a different presentation, then Audio Osmosis. Kaplan also has MCAT 45 which is basically tough questions and such.

I have read Kaplan and just started using EK. EK seems to be more focused on how to maximize your score. You know, memorize this but that one will be provided if it even shows up on the test.

Ok, thanks for your response.

My other question: is EK complete a thick volume--or does it have a smaller book for each subject--4 books in all?

Is the 5th edition of the Complete the most recent?

Thanks!

The complete packages is divided into five books: bio, chem, orgo, physics, verbal/math. There's a practice test that comes with it. 5th edition is the most recent.

I ordered my EK set.. it has yet to arrive though..

Out of curiosity, how many practice problems are there in each of these 5 books?

I also have the kaplan comp. review and there is only one practice test.. which seems a bit fewer than I would expect from such a thick book..

Thanks

I don't mean to berate either one but I used both and felt them totally inadequate to the real deal or the AAMC tests..

the EK questions are way too "I'm going to screw with your mind" kinda of questions. Too detail oriented too..

Kaplan verbal questions are also like that and I found inconsistencies in a lot of their library stuff.

Anyways, I think both are good practice but when you are about to take the real deal, finish off with AAMC practice tests so you get a real feel for how it should be.
