Can somebody help me understand the answer to this question? The provided explanation seems not very helpful.
774. Which division of the autonomic nervous system has the most dominant effect on the heart?
A. The somatic nervous system
B. The sympathetic nervous system
C. The enteric nervous system
D. The parasympathetic nervous system
Answer:
D is correct. The involuntary autonomic nervous system has 2 divisions, the sympathetic and the parasympathetic. The sympathetic system increases the heart rate in times of stress or during "fight or flight".
I guessed that it was B due to the fact that when the sympathetic nervous system is activated it seems like it would "overpower" the parasympathetic response.
