I've been out of undergrad for some time now, and have decided to take the August 28 exam. I still remember Orgo and Bio well, and will surely review everything but I've prioritized Gen Chem, Physics and VR for the moment.

I've been reviewing the EK Chem book and have re-read it a couple of times, and thought I understood the concepts very well, however doing the 30 minute section exams at the end of the book prove otherwise.

Would be it be more efficient to get the EK1001 book and do tons of problems instead of reviewing the material ad-nauseum?

Basically, would EK1001 be a good didactic tool or is it better used as a gauge to measure how well a subject is understood?

Thanks!

If you have identified a weak point, my suggestion is to slam the hammer down with TBR... If you are weak and do something really hard, the actual passages will seem that much easier and more manageable.

Come to think of it, is there any store that has the EK1001 Chem in stock? Can't seem to find any

Could sometimes, but not always, find these in your local bookstores. Call around/check online to see if they have them in stock.

Otherwise, check Amazon (for new and quick shipping) or you could buy used from someone in your area (check craigslist, etc.).

I would support using EK 1001 to hammer in the basics. I don't see a point trying to tackle complex passages if you don't even know the necessary basic facts and equations.

I'll probably use EK 1001 Bio for this. I'm a Bio major and don't feel I need to spend days going through content review books. Since EK 1001 Bio is more geared towards content review (rather than passage practice), I'll use it to brush up on some key facts before moving to "real" passage practice (e.g. TBR, TPRH, AAMCs, etc.).

EK1001 physics and chem are the only ones worth buying. They are good for content review. EK1001 bio and ochem are crap.

Why aren't bio and ochem good?
(I'm looking to use them primarily to the solidify the facts, then I'll move to passages from other sources)

if you have the time and the motivation to do them, then by ALL means do those ek 1001 bio and organic books. more practice NEVER hurts, and ek 1001 biology actually contains 101 MCAT-styled biology passages.

now, those passages are a bit on the easy side, and they probably aren't as good as TPRH or TBR biology passages. but when you have the option to do an extra 100 biology passages at a very low price (i believe you can buy the ek 1001 biology book for under $25?), what's to lose?

Thanks for the response.

I'm intending to use them just to become 100% with all the necessary content rather than to practice passages. So would doing 1/3 to 1/2 of EK 1001 Bio be good for that purpose?

if you are a bio major and already have a strong grasp of the basics, then this should be MORE than sufficient.

but then again, what's gonna take to just do the whole darn thing?

Amazon has the full EK set new for $118. I bought it there last week.

That set doesn't include any of the 1001s as far as I know.

1001 chem is coming out with a new edition in the beginning of July so there are no "previous" editions on the shelves of BN, so the price inflated heavily. The cheapest NEW books I found range from $65-$300

I got the 1001 through eBay and amazon last week for about $20 each, all new. But I didn't get the physics 1001 and when I went to look for it the other day the prices literally had doubled! I was wondering why the prices shot up in one week, I'm glad I got them when I did. But now the physics one is like $60! It was $22 before :/
