EKG tech experience

any of you work (or have once) worked as an ekg tech. if so could you expain the pros/cons. i may be able to get this job pretty soon
 
Blebl,

I worked as an ER Technican for 2 years in my local hospital. A good part of my job was being the hospital's EKG tech (the EKG machine was housed in the ED).

I would totally reccomend going for the EKG tech job. You will get alot of contact with patients, which is why i liked it the most. Furthermore, if you give the EKG directly to the doc, he/she may be able to show you some characteristic waveforms (Vtac, Afib, PSVT, etc...). Knowledge like that will help you in the future.

The only disadvantage is that it can get somewhat boring placing 10 stickers in the exact same location all the time. However, if you really enjoy talking with the patients, this really isn't an issue.

If you learn how to read ECGs well, you will be far ahead of most med students, housestaff, and attendings.
 
Then one day you'll become a cardiologist
