Hello fellow Indians,

I'm a 6th year medical student from Denmark wanting to take a clinical elective in India, preferably South India.

By the time of my expected elective, I will have completed my medical degree (equivalent to MBBS in india), but not the obligatory 1-yr long internship required to have a medical license.

So here's my question: Can I take a clinical elective in India being neither a medical student nor a licensed doctor, but something in between?

Another question: What's a "clerkship" in India? Is it something you do during medical school or after?

Thanks in advance

Never mind, figured it out myself

😎In india clerkship is same as internship else where, for 1 full year, and without it no licensing.

elective or clinical experience is taken here as observer or obsrevership, whereby a month or more of clinical rotation in india can be planned with preapproval from the institute and prepayment of fees.

Its important to have such clinical posts in India, as it add on to your (hands on.. although not permitted to "practical hands on") experience.

you will get experience in clinical approach rather than investigational approach in resource poor settings. It may make you aware of a different world, where patients may be examined in open.

Do insist for research observership in India.

AT MY INSTITUTE www.kem.edu, every ear many observers jfrom different countries join in various specialities. Language though different doesnt seem to be a major obstackle. Do care for your safety.

Consider your clinical elective as a project. Plan well in advance. consult senior colleagues who had been through this. Plan your paperwork, expenses, accomodation in advance.

study your posting carefully. note down important and distinct or unusal points. make a observation.. put it on paper. Do a write up of same. discuss with asenior faculty. analyse it.. make suggestions for change. get opinions.
publish the same in institutes journal.
That will add on to your CV, present this as project to your parent institutes/ colleagues, help them build with you.

share. Be free. Open.. and observant.
