Are you able to take electives while being in the dental school? Such as a language course or a music course etc. from their undergraduate department or graduate department?

During our senior year we can opt to have a concentration in various disciplines (ie, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, omfs, esthetica, etc). Each concentration requires some extra coursework, so in that sense we can take electives. I haven't heard of anyone taking any undergraduate or graduate coursework in addition to the DDS courses with the exception of MBA or MPH dual degree students - but in those cases they are typically paying more for those degrees and tacking on an extra year to the DDS.

Not that I know of. Honestly though, I wouldn't want it. You are paying for Dental School, so if there is time in your schedule it should be populated with coursework/training to make you a better dentist. Free99 hit the nail on the head.

Our school offered electives for us in our third year.

My school offers research electives for D1 and D2, operative skill development elective (to prepare for clinic), and in D3, there are elective courses like CAD/CAM, etc. But i agree with free99, focus on being a badass clinician first before getting into entrepreneurship courses, etc.

IV sedation, advanced prosthodontics, VA hospital rotation and EGPE (basically a non-profit low income clinic that provided a ton of restorative) were available to qualified students at Pitt.

You prob could do it at Penn bc they spend more time outside of clinic than actually in clinic. lulz

Why not take them while you're still in undergrad?
