If you add a resistor to a series circuit, does the overall resistance decrease or increase? what if you add it to a parallel circuit?

thnx

Resistance in a series in the sum of all the individual resistors. Therefore if you add another resistor to a series circuit the overall resistance will have to increase. On the other hand, resistors in parallel circuits sum up to a total resistance in a reciprocal fashion (1/R = 1/R1 + ... 1/Rn). I'll leave it up to you to figure out if the total resistance increases or decreases like this.
