Electronic Stethoscope?

I was wondering if anyone could offer a comparison between electronic stethoscopes such as the littman model 4000 and regular ones like the master cardiology? Is the quality of sounds really that much better on the 4000 or is it just overkill. There is certainly a price difference. Also does anyone recommend any other electronic stethoscopes? Thanks

I second DrMom's question, I don't have the keenest ears, and am concerned that I might have difficulty hearing the fainter sounds. I am sure that using a littman will be quite different than the cheap no-name junk that I have used, but is there that serious a difference? I'd rather not pay $400 or so for some electronic gadget when $100 will suffice for a littman cardiology or something in that range.

The littman master cardiology is by far the best for any ears. Many of the older docs who may have hearing problems use this as well. The elect. ones are only a selling feature, and at times they do attract people people with hearing issues.
There is no need to spend that money. In some areas they have medical stores, and you might be able to see if they have a littman master cardiology in stock.
This littman master cardiology will usually run approx. 190-200.

I bought the Littman master cardiologist. Here is a piece of advice. I had heard that the short version has better acoustics, so I bought it. The bad part is that you are all up in your patients faces when you are listening to their hearts/lungs and they breathe their nasty pneumonic breath on you. Get the long one!

To funny, I never thought about that. I guess that is mainly for Peds.

I have used a master cardiology for about 6 years. The other day, a friend of mine showed me his new Litmann 4000. All I can say is WOW!!!

The only reason I can see not to get one (besides the price) is that I'd be afraid I wouldn't be able to use a regular stethoscope again.
