I was having a discussion with a colleague of mine and he claims the following after completing HPSP.

He states that our time in the reserves in dental school should count toward the required 6 years of service to be eligible to transfer their GI Bill benefits to family members by agreeing to an additional service commitment of at least four years.

Two and a half years into my payback, can I apply for transfer now? (4 years reserves in dental school and 2.5 years active duty)

If I did apply for transfer and signed a four year contract for the reserves, would four years in the reserves make me eligible for transfer?

Thank you for your help, sorry if this is convoluted.

No, you are inactive reserve in dental school. It does not count toward your service time or any of benefits. Only your active duty service counts toward GI Bill.
