I am on the Army HPSP and interested in EM. There are 3 programs, but you are only allowed 2 ADTs. Instead of doing 6 weeks at each (you are allowed 6) Is it possible to do 4 weeks at Madigan, 4 weeks at BAMC, and 4 weeks at Darnall, and still get paid for all 3. That is not exceeding the 2 ADT (12 week) maximum allowed, but how would they do the orders?

I have had conflicting reports on whether this is possible or not.

No. ADT tours must be 45 days in duration with at least 21 days at the MTF. While you are allowed to do different rotations while at any given MTF, you will only be allowed to travel from your place of duty (school) to the MTF and return unless you elect to do a back-to-back ADT.

A back-to-back ADT usually consists of X amount of days at school, followed by no less than 21 days at a MTF, immediately followed by no less than 21 days at a second MTF, and the remaining days at school.

Any way you look at it the Army will only pay for you to visit two MTFs over a total of 90 days.

Previous poster has it right, they only pay for 2, hard and fast. I did a paid at Madigan and Darnall, and an unpaid at BAMC. My advice would be to do a paid at BAMC or Darnall, and drive down to the other place for a few shifts to get your face out there, roughly 2.5 hour drive from Darnall to BAMC

Yes. However, your time at BAMC will be a NADT in that you will not have travel, lodging, etc paid for (you will, however, continue to be paid as active duty). You can set it up such that you have a 4-week ADT with 2 weeks "at school" followed by 2 weeks of "school orders" before your next 4-week ADT. While only two months would actually be ADT (with travel, lodging, etc paid), you would be active duty for three continuous months.

While psychbender is technically correct, there are a couple issues that need to be pointed out.

1. You must fly if you are travelling more that 350 miles one way.

2. You will be issued orders to travel to and from your place of duty (school) on certain days. The travel office will not allow you to deviate from those travel days. So, if you want to spend the extra two weeks in TX, you would have to work a deal directly with the airline, or simply pay for airfare back to school out of pocket.

Really? I call shenanigans on this one. School rotations are often not actually anywhere near the school. At my medical school, there were only a few sites that were actually in our part of the state, and many more that were >200 miles away. So what you are saying is, if I returned home to a rotation at one of these sites, and some untoward event happened, there would be an unfavorable investigation because I was not physically in my school, but instead doing a school-approved rotation at a school-approved site? Even with how assinine the admin people can be, I find this one hard to believe. There is no difference between that and doing an NADT at a military site, because that military hospital then becomes a school-approved location (once the training agreement is signed). I find it even harder to believe that any such investigation would take place, for the simple fact that none of the admin people seem to even understand the concept of HPSP, nor believe that we are either reserve or active duty.

While we're on the topic of EM away rotations, does anyone know if it really matters if you're on active duty or not? I ended with one at Madigan as ADT and one at Darnell not on active duty. I had the chance to do my Family Med rotation at a base during M3, and it was way easier to arrange with the school if I did it as an ADT so I used one of my 45 day increments up on that. I'm trying to maximize my chances of matching any way that I can at this point.
