This may be a stupid question, but is there any significant difference between residencies that schedule using a 12 block schedule (using the calendar month) vs. one that uses 13 -4 week blocks. Aside from obviously having one less rotation/year.

2-3 less days of each service, meaning likely one less call day on trauma, ICU, etc.
Other than that, no.

Well, that and having to actually remember when you start rotations, instead of just saying Nov 1, you have to know a real date. But you always start on a Monday, which is cool.

4 week rotations just seem to make more sense.

Most call seems to be Q4 (at least at my program), so each resident gets the same amount of call, same amount of weekend call etc.

Handoff/signout happens on Mondays, which makes more sense than handing off over the weekend.

All rotations are the same length, so ICU in January is the same as ICU in February.
