so how would i go about getting into sports med as an em person? i'm interested in both, but you can't do a 'sports medicine' residency, can you? i haven't seen any, if there are. i've heard usually its more of a fellowship. anyway, are there combined programs? thanx.

sports med is typically a 1-2 year fellowship done after an em or fp residency.

Check out www.saem.org

The sidebar on their homepage has a link to EM Fellowships. There you will find information on Sports Medicine Fellowships. As far as residency, goes PM&R might be the closest thing...don't know for sure. If you look at professional sports most team doctors I've heard of are orthopods but then again I'm no authority on sports medicine.

I went to that link, are those the only places in the US that offer Sports Med fellowships?
Thanks

The Physician & Sports Medicine website has a listing of sports medicine fellowships & whether they are for FP, EM, or other residency trained doctors.

The link is here.
