Hey guys,

I wrote Sept 5 and I just received an email from the US air force (I'm Canadian btw...) congratulating me on my 'outstanding MCAT score'

Does this mean anything?
Do they know something that I don't?

Here is the following email you should have received. I do not think it has any indication on your MCAT score and I have received similar ones from medical schools as did others.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR OUTSTANDING MCAT SCORE

You've taken the first step on your journey to becoming a physician. This is a hopeful time as you consider schools, potential specialties, and your future as a doctor.

However, the reality is that medical school is expensive. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, a physician graduates
with an average of $131,000 in educational debt.

The Air Force has a solution, the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP)

*****************

A three or four year scholarship
Covers tuition, fees, textbooks and more
Attend the college or university of your choice
Receive a monthly stipend of $1,605

Qualifications: To qualify you must be a U.S. citizen age 18 - 39 and accepted into an accredited medical school in the United States or Puerto Rico.

*****************

Congratulations on having completed the MCAT, the United States Air Force wishes you the best as your medical career advances. We have
received your email indicating your interest in career opportunities within the medical field. However, if you do not wish to receive emails of this nature moving forward, please visit ***************** and let us know and we will promptly unsubscribe you.

define passable?

The thing is...I wrote the mcat a few times before and never received that email...
maybe it's me just trying to be hopeful...

I've seen other people get the email closer to their score release day. OMGosh does this mean we might get our scores early?

This is a program to help people pay for medical school in return for serving in the military as a doctor once finished. You'll probably get emails from the different branches of military and multiple times at that.

EXACTLY, it's just a solicitation. The Air Force probaby paid AAMC for their list of names so they could send a bulk message to everyone who took the exam in a given period of time.

All it would seem to mean is that AAMC is getting more than $210 a person.

OMG, I didn't get any such email and I wrote 9/6. Does that mean I did bad on the MCAT?! I'm starting to get really worried.🙁

no. Don't freak out yet. There's no way the AAMC would release your score to a third party earlier than they do to you. If they did it would really highlight a blatant lack of integrty. Just wait till you get your scores. In fact, I took the MCAT last year, and did not get that e-mail, but I DID get it this year. 🙄

Berkreview, it looks like the AAMC is getting even more than we suspected. They probably mail bomb the entire AMCAS list as well...

Got this same email. Took the MCAT on the 6th of Sept. I hope the air force isn't that petty to email people who did not do well. We will just have to see. 😎

I took the MCAT in June and so far I've gotten e-mail from:

University of Illinois - Urbana/Champaign MD/PhD
Indiana University - MD/PhD
US Army
AACOM (Consider Osteopathic Medicine!)
University of Alabama - Birmingham MD/PhD
Columbia University Institute of Human Nutrition ???
AT Still School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona

It's starting to get annoying as I'm on my computer every day and jump when my Gmail goes to (1). It's especially disconcerting that some of them come from "admissions" and start out with "Congratulations!"

I don't know if I missed a confidentiality waiver when I took the MCAT or what but I think they should reduce the $210 if they are going to sell my e-mail and MCAT score to third parties.

Also been contacted by a bunch of them...
I'm hardly competitive enough to interview in Ontario but apparently school in the states are recruiting me haha...

The AAMC is a monopoly and therefore gets away with the backdoor cashgrab gimmicks.
