Email vs Portal Notifications

Anyone experienced any cases where updates were communicated through portal but not email? As in you didn't check your portal and thus missed something because it didn't show up in your email. I just think it's slightly inconvenient to constantly check the portal for so many schools and so I was wondering if I'd be ok just relying on my email.

No its not really enough to just rely on e-mail. This depends on the school though and I'd comb through the school specific threads to make a determination on this.

i've seen a lot of people in the ohio state thread reporting lack of email or very delayed emails. If you applied there, that would be a portal I would be checking.

As I tell all applicants you should check each school’s portal at least twice a weeks after you have been marked complete or in review. This is your application and you own this process.

I guess I'll stick to this rule of thumb, thank you!

Havent checked portals all cycle. Just checked, missed nothing. Good thing I didnt waste all that time all cycle.

I think it depends on you. The only school that I didn't receive an email from was george washington, and that was just a hold status. You'll find some people on here complaining that the email the school sent them went to their spam bin, which doesn't really make sense to me since they received the original secondary application email from the school. Maybe it depends on your email address? I guess some of the people on here may be a little outdated and use hotmail or maybe yahoo, but I've never had a problem with gmail sending important info to spam. That being said, I still check my portal maybe once a week to see all those A I got.
