Hello all,

This post is directed to current/past PDs and current residents. What do you like to see in an email from an eager applicant and what did you include in your email to the PDs?

Also what did you not like to see?

I read somewhere that emailing coordinators might also be beneficial.

Good: Brief, specific, and polite. Show that you have a definite interest in being there. Don't just quote from the program's website. Honesty. As personal as you can realistically be.

Bad: poor grammar, over-effusive praise, rambly, wordy. Made-up local connections. Pulling phrases randomly from our website. Spammed to "Dear Program Director and/or Coordinator".

Same as above for coordinators. No need to write 2 personal notes though. Write one of us, cc the other.
