Are embrasures the interproximal spaces?

Members don't see this ad.

Embrassures r spillways or escapeways for food particles interproximally in a dentition with tight contacts , so I guess the ans to ur qn would be yes they are present interproximally but r not spaces rather triangular or wedge shaped areas around a tight tooth to tooth contact

for each teeth contact there are 4 embrassures.

Embrasures
* Open space
* Spillways
* Named for their location
o Names:
+ Facial (buccal or labial)
+ Lingual
+ Incisal or occlusal
+ Gingival/Cervical (if interproximal space not occupied by tissue or bone)
* Function
o Allow food to be forced away from contact areas
o Reduce the forces of occlusal forces
o Self-cleansing
o Permit a slight amount of stimulation to the gingiva

The only tooth that does not have an incisal embrasure usually is mandibular central incisor due to its very high contact point. Every other tooth has 4 embrasures.
