I don't know about you guys, but embryo has been killing me on this Q Bank. I am half way done with Q bank and my overall percentage is 74%, but my embryo is like 35%. At our school, being on the systems curriculum, embryo basically fell through the cracks. We were able to get by almost without even studying it because they combined it with our anatomy exams. Anyone have any clue just how much embryo they actually put on USMLE and COMLEX I? At this point I wouldn't be able to differentiate a pharyngeal arch from the St. Louis Arch, or a metanephric duct from an AC duct!!!

good question because i'm wondering myself. embryo fell through the cracks at our school too. bought that high yield embryo, but it's not as useful as if i already had some sort of foundation on the subject.

there will be 1-5 questions. most of the questions will come straight out of first aid. the rest will be stuff you have never seen before so don't sweat it. again, getting 60-70% of the exam right is a very high school (250)

I dont think embryo is stressed on the boards but if you're concerned and wanna do better on Qbank embryo I'd suggest reading the embryo section in Kaplan's Anatomy Notes. It shouldn't take more than a few hours. I never had a solid embryo base but I read those sections and my Qbank embryo score is one of my highest.

Please don't initiate BS. 60 to 70% is barely passing on Step 1. This equates to a 180-210.

A 250 would correspond to 85% of the questions right. Which is a great feat.

You know, for a fake poster you sure are arrogant.

I've always heard that with a 55-60%, you can be confident that you will pass the boards. I would put that at the 180-210 (since you are confident you will pass, not barely) Generally speaking, a 70% puts you in the 230 neighborhood.

You are all full of ****, because none of you even know. Nobody who posts on this board has any idea what kind of percentage you have to get right to pass/otherwise. I have been guilty of this in the past, and I think all we can say is that about 95% of students pass. Make of that what you will.

60 to 70% may be barely passing on Step 1, but we're talking about QBank scores, not Step 1 scores.

As Idiopathic notes, the correlation between the two is unknown.

Just a point, but of course one would do better on Kaplan QBank by reading Kaplan lecture notes, no?

Well, I think the poster was saying that 60% right on the USMLE correlates to yadda-yadda, and there is no way any of us know that for sure. Nobody even knows how well they themselves do on the test, much less what score is required for what scaled score...

In the context of the OP's OP, I'm not reading it that way (he seems to be reassuring him that the scores he is getting are good), but I suppose only musicman1991 knows for sure. 🙂

Actually if you have the time, I suggest skimming through Langman's Embryology and looking at the clinical correlation boxes. It's a well-written book.

Oh and my exam had about 20 questions on embryology. Those are easy points if you're ready for them.

I can tell you that if you get 70% on USMLE you will pass.

I think anyone who is honest with you and themselves with how they are doing on Q Bank will fall in place within probably a 20 point window of error. Of my 6 friends in 4th year, here is how they panned out.

80%-256
75%-236
72%-230
65%-218
62%-204
55%-198
edit- I rearranged the numbers so they are in descending order

Its amazing how well they parallel their QBank score. I feel pretty good right now.

I know. That's why I think there is a decent correlation between QBank and what you score. You'll notice the 55%er passed by 20 points. Just about what I had said earlier. And the 70%er's both were in the 230 neighborhood.

But you know that you can in no way assume a certain USMLE score based on QBank, just agree with me there...
With the lone exception that a 0% on qbank eqauls a 0 on the boards, we are in agreement.

Wow didn't mean to start a fire under ya'lls butts here, but what I meant was this....

When I took step 1, I thought I failed. I was down for 1 week. I ended up with 250. I didn't know every freakin question (including the embryo). When it comes to teh small topics chill out you AREN'T going to know everything!!!

Sorry for throwing out percentages, but you don't need ot get 100% on the real test to get a great score. Study 1st aid for the little topics and MEMORIZE IT. Someone said elsewhere that you don't need to memorize first aid, and I disagree. For embryo, anatomy, etc. you need to memorize it. For path and physio you should have a firm grasp but you need to memorize what is not in your head. That book has been refined for 10 years or so so they know what is in there is fair game on the test. If you don't know it you may miss a question. Certainly the questions I didn't know on the test - at least 1/2 were stuff I forgot from 1st. aid.

Yeah, I agree. Remember that really hard questions or poorly written questions will probably get thrown out as experimental. Plus, just be prepared to see things you've never considered before. The question writers are really good at what they do, and they know how to write a question that you WON'T know immediately, but can solve if you just think through it.
