I've been through the FA section 3 times now and I think I have a pretty good understanding of the Embryo material in there.

Unfortunately, I've been told that FA isn't enough. Is that true? And if so, what additional book would you recommend? (I borrowed HY Embryology from a classmate and flipped through a couple of pages to preview. I'm really dreading having to go through that text! But so far, that's what I hear is the next source.)

From my own experience and the seeming consensus, you'll get asked maybe one or two total embryo questions... and those will be really straightforward. I read HY and FA, that was overkill. I too was dreading reading that entire HY, but I just did it as I was going through that organ system in FA. One of those chapters takes like 10 minutes to read. Overall very low yield, though. But HY is good and reallly an easy read. Don't get caught up in details that are not in FA.

Make sure you really understand terms like

malformation
disruption
deformation
dysplasia
syndrome
sequence
association
field defect

I don't remember them being in FA although I'm not sure.

A low yield subject for most people but there are no guarantees.

Hmm...any ideas where I would find those? It's not in FA and while I haven't read over HY yet too carefully, I'm pretty sure they aren't in there either.

I had like 3 embryology questions on my test. Only one of which was answerable only by reading HY embryo. It's up to you whether you think the investment is worth it. It took me a whole day to read HY embryo. I knew embryo pretty well and guess what, the NBME didn't care. lol

haha...thanks for the advice!

It'll probably take me a day or two to get through it so I think I'll just stick with the FA and take my chances. 😛
