Just my thought too about the little things. Sending us a nice leather portfolio was awfully generous! It's also a good sign that they have money to support student goals.
.
I am military and have a security clearance so I don't think it will be an issue 🙂
Well...Dang! lol
They were in FedEx boxes
Has anyone received financial aid notices yet? I don't have anything in Opus yet, even though it does say its been received (I submitted my FAFSA in January).
I just received my financial aid letter, and my Practical Experience grant is $2,000 per semester, for a total of $4,000 over the academic year. I have no way of knowing where that falls on the generosity spectrum, so I thought I would ask all of you. Is anyone seeing more/less, or does that amount seem to be the standard?
Are you guys seeing this in OPUS or via mail? When I check financial aid in OPUS under aid year description it says "Inquiry Access Denied".
I wouldn't think department would matter but they may be going in order of SS#, the order they received the FAFSA info, or by last name or something (I am in the S's). I'll shoot them an email just in case.
Oh okay! I'm planning to make my decision by the end of the week, so if I do all my accepting then, I'll be good to go and not penalized?I got the same email. The thing that's missing is your acceptance of the aid package, but you don't technically have to accept it yet even if you've committed to the school.
Just called and they said May 1.What is the deadline for Financial Aid acceptances / reductions / etc?
Just called and they said May 1.
Maybe it was more of a formal deadline? I think that funding should still apply, as OneDay81 said. Maybe if you don't accept by May 1st you won't have the guarantee that reimbursements will come in on time in the fall. How are you calculating? I'm getting really nervous about the debt too. My choices are dream school Emory vs. a full ride to UC Irvine.... You should probably call again. I could have misunderstood.
Both of those posts of yours are very helpful! Thank you for the break down. I'm also very nervous about the debt. I will check out UCI to help my decision. It is very new/not yet accredited, and the focus of the program isn't really what I want. But, I'd save so much money...If anyone has any thoughts, I'd love your input!I bet you're right, they probably wouldn't withhold funding without explicitly saying they were, otherwise you probably would have some pretty ticked off prospects. My cost calculation method is pretty basic and admittedly based on my own financial situation. I was offered 33k a year for 2 years with 4k a year practical experience, so 8k total. Technically I would be 66k in debt not 65k like I previously posted. So the financial package is 74k total for the program. Tuition is 13,800 X4 semesters = 55,200, leaving 18,800 for rent. That's pays comfortably about 600 a month for rent plus utilities and incidentals. Food, entertainment, and books I am paying out of my savings and if I could get a side job somewhere random on campus (library?) that would be helpful. I got my parents to agree to help with my health insurance and auto insurance. I also plan on working a summer internship which would be paid after my first year. My goal is Deloitte or a hospital summer internship (I am HPM). The reason I am being so stingy on the budget is that I am absolutely trying to avoid grad plus loans with their 7.9% interest rate and rather only doing the unsubsidized at 6.8%. I wrote this before on the forum but my plan is to live like a college student for about 1 year post graduation so I can pay down a big chunk of the principal of the loan before the compound interest destroys me. It looks like you're in an even more difficult situation than I am. A full ride to UCI isn't anything to scoff over. I am giving myself until the beginning of May and then just deciding. With all of my analysis, it could just come down to a coin flip 😉
Has everyone started securing housing yet?
