Emory DPT Interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't heard anything! I will let you know when I do 🙂

My advisor said Emory is always kind of slow with everything, so I would give it another week or two!

Just got an interview invite to Emory. It's set for January 16th!

I just heard back also! My interview is also January 16th! Does anyone know what percentage of the students who are invited for an interview are accepted into the program?

I still havent heard anything. Did they email you or send a letter?

I received an interview invite for 1/23/15 yesterday by email. Anyone else? Hope to see you there 🙂

I moved my interview to the 23rd due to an open house conflict. I'll see you all there @weenston @shs31! Have you all heard anything about the interview process? (Other than the info in the email)

Hi I went to the interview last year and I didn't get my invite until early January. I interviewed in late January so just giving you some hope if you haven't heard back yet 🙂

Ive heard that Emory's is the most straightforward interview you will have. I heard they ask why you want to be a PT, why Emory, your future goals and thats pretty much it. But who knows, they could always throw a curve ball.

Awesome. Thanks for the info! Are you from the area or traveling in for the interview? Good to know it will likely be straightforward! Seems like an all day event so I was sort of intimated!!

Are you attending Emory or did you go to another school?

Does anyone know an exact start date for Emory's DPT program?

How was the interview?
The interview is a group format so you'll be with two other people. They ask everyone the same questions and you take turns. Thankfully the people I interviewed with were awesome and we all got along well, that we even had the same answers and supported each other which is unusual for the format. The interview is an all day affair because they take you around campus, meet students and faculty. You will meet the director and see the 3rd years research presentations. Parents are welcome too.

I am from St. Pete, FL so I'll be traveling about 8 hours! 🙂 What about you?? But yeah it seems like we will literally be there all day haha that's fine with me though!

Those of you who received invitations to the interview, mind posting your stats? Overall GPA, pre req gpa, gre score, and hours - it'd be awesome if you post what university/college you're coming from as well. Thank you!

Hi!
Thanks so much for replying to this thread.
I had one question! I've heard that Emory is mostly a research based program. Would you say thats true?
Thank you!
Lindsay

Hi jchen!
I've also got a question for you. From what I've learned about Emory thus far, I absolutely love it. However, I am skeptical about the financial situation it would put me in after graduation. Have you heard from any recent alumni about their experiences after graduation regarding this? Are their lifestyles significantly hindered by their loan payments? In short... Is it worth it?

Thank you!!

It's not "mostly" research based. We are required to complete (start and finish in third year) a research project with a poster presentation at the end of the third year with potential for presentation at CSM in the future. However, its all clinical and didactic course work for hte first 5-7 semesters (out of 9), with long term clinical rotations happening semesters 6, 7 and short terms occurring at the end of semesters 3-5.

It is research based in the sense that everything taught is evidence based and there is substantial evidence in the literature for what they teach. But most programs require some form of a capstone/reserach project at some point in the 3 years, emory's occurs in semesters 8 and 9

For those who had their interview on the 16th, do you mind posting what it was like? How many interviewees, etc?

It was great! About 80 people interviewed. The interview was really a small portion of the day, only about 45 minutes when you are there from 7:45-5. We interviewed in groups of 2 or 3, where we took turns answering the same questions. It is very relaxed, and the faculty give you a chance to interview them after you've answered just a few questions. We were put into larger groups of people for the rest of the days activities, led by a current 3rd year student. In these groups we had the opportunity to hear about their curriculum, research, clinical sites, volunteer and service learning, the Atlanta area, and see the facilities. We had breakfast when we arrived, lunch at noon, and some snacks during a reception at the end. You meet and talk to 1st and 3rd year students throughtout the day, who give you an idea about the student culture.

The whole day was much more focused on showing you what it is like at Emory, rather than evaluating you. I felt extremely welcomed.

I've got an interview scheduled for the 23rd. Very excited! 😀

Very helpful info - thanks for posting! I was super curious (and nervous) as to how the group interview format would work, and I feel a little more at ease now.

Thanks for the info! How soon are you expected to hear back?

Glad I could help! They told us we can expect to hear back in February or March.... although I'm chomping at the bit to know if I got in! I'll be sure to post on here whenever I do!

Has anyone from the first interview group heard anything?

Wow @PacerPT! That was a very quick turn around. Congratulations on your acceptance!! I'm sure you feel at ease now :soexcited:

That emoji describes how I feel perfectly, haha! Anyone else planning on joining the Emory class of 2018?

I'm very torn between attending Emory and UIndy... I was accepted to both, and I'm still trying to decide!

Congrats! I'm sure whatever decision you make will be great!
I know they sent out acceptances on 1/27 as well. Does anyone know if they are still sending them out or if that's it? Not sure if I should call or something, just want to know my status.

@shs31 when did you interview? I interviewed on 1/23 and they said to please give them two weeks. And then they added that if we needed the decision asap to give them until 2/2 before we contacted them. If you interviewed before then then I'm sure you can contact them! 🙂

Hey what were your GRE scores/GPAs? Just curious! I apparently never sent them my GRE scores? But the interviewed me and all... so I just sent my GRE scores yesterday when they requested them haha. Just want to see what accepted students have scored for comparison!

Cumulative GPA: 3.97
Pre-Req GPA: 4.0
GRE: 160V, 147Q, 4.0AW

Was able to make up for my low quantitative score in other ways, evidently!
