Hey everybody!
I've been accepted to a few MD programs but I've narrowed to down to Rush and Emory. I attended second look for both (didn't make my decision any easier) and I'm having a tough time making a decision. I am interested in OB/GYN and I am pretty sure that I both of these schools would give me a great shot at matching. My Intuition and excitement are driving me toward Emory but I feel that Rush may be a more practical choice because it's familiar and close to home.

Emory
+Grady hospital
+great vibe/ campus feel
+diverse patient population and opportunities to serve the underserved
+older brother lives in ATL
+5 month discovery period for research
+strong SMNA (VERY important to me as a URM student)
+Atlanta is GORGEOUS
+Im interested in living in the south long term

-haven't received Fin Aid yet
-the most expensive school I've been accepted to
-would have to adjust to life in the south
- professors "teach to the wards and not the boards" idk how much this matters, but the curriculum is geared toward making students great clinicians, not necessarily tailored to STEP

Rush
+strong service orientation, particularly on the west side of Chicago
+familiar environment (grew up an hour west)
+really friendly student body
+spent my gap year teaching underserved middle school kids in Chicago- would be able to stay in contact with them/ connect them to RMC pipeline programs
+Cook county
+ sort of a "feeder school" from my undergrad
+partial scholarship

-entirely flipped curriculum makes me nervous
-chicago winters are HARD on my mental health
-"feeder school" from my undergrad

I'd wait on your Emory finaid because I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of help they provided me. Every person's situation is different, but they tend to be very generous with aid (meaning grants and such not loans).

Also Emory >>>> Rush as far as research opportunities, reputation, match list. They both in really exciting cities, an if you're interested in living in the south, I think Emory is going to give you the best shot of staying down there (although you can go anywhere if you go to Emory).

If I were you I would weigh how much you really want to stay home for 4 more years vs whether you want to embark on a new journey in a new place. I can't answer that for you, but to me everything is point Emory. It'll come down to what you're more comfortable with -- leaving or staying.

Rush just called me this afternoon and offered me a half-tuition scholarship, in addition to the merit scholarship they already gave me. This would bring my cost of attendance down to $37,500/ year. Emory would be $85,000-28,000= $57,000/ year. Should this change my decision? I thought I was set on Emory until this afternoon and now i'm not sure.

Out of curiosity, what’s the “feeder school” for RUSH? I’ve never heard of such a school considering they have no undergrad

Also I vote for Rush

I went to UIUC for undergrad. It's not a true feeder school, but I know a lot of pre-meds from my undergrad who go to Rush or are planning to go to Rush. I ran into a few of them at second look. That was kind of a drawback for me because I wanted to switch up my environment and the type of people I'm around.
