Emphasizing Research vs. Community Service in Primary/Secondaries

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think both, if on the application, will. Things don't have to be mutually exclusive - I.e academic who works in free clinics

I think there's a desire for both types of emphases at each school and that it will largely be dependent on how unique you end up being from the rest of the application pool and which particular adcom reads your application.

Personally, I'd imagine that the research accumen will speak for itself and will likely be brought up in interviews (sometimes applicants are questioned why they have so much research and not an intention to pursue a PhD).

Well, do you want to be a researcher? Talk about research.

Are you more interested in the clinical side? Talk about the community service.

The experiences themselves are great but being passionate about them will help you much more. Don't emphasize one solely to get into a school. Because the one you emphasize will probably be the bulk of your interview.
