EMTs, paramedics, techs: How did you pay for your training?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Depending on the state, there are funds for training EMTs so that the squad you are a part of can get reimbursed for sponsoring your education. But to do this, you have to be a member of a squad and you have to be in a state that does this. Usually volunteer squads can entice members this way - volunteer your time and you get a free EMS education! Depending on the squad, there may also be a volunteer commitment after your education - they do this so that you don't just up and leave after you get your EMT certification.

I want a better pre-med job. Can't seem to afford the training though.
Since you mentioned "tech" I assume that's anything else other than EMT and paramedic.

I kinda had a gap year between hs and undergrad, during that year I worked at a tire shop and paid for courses at my cc to obtain a surgical tech cert.
