anyone with part I below 85 have interviews?

It can be done. However, you definitely need to make your application shine in other areas. It won't be easy. Work experience, research, publications, teaching. Show dedication and a strong desire to be an endodontist.

Work on really getting to know the people who will be writing you letters of rec. Make sure they know you well and can really recommend you, not just filling out the form. Also make sure that you are getting letters from endodontists that really matter to the program directors (i.e. other directors, chairs of endo departments, etc.) People that program directors know and trust.

What I have found is that the different programs need a way to filter the numerous applications. GPA, board scores, and class rank are one way to do that. If you haven't been out of school for a while, then it is really the only way. But they also really take into account the whole package. It is your job to make that package as attractive as possible.

Also not all programs value the same things. Some take new grads, some toss new grad apps immediately. Some only take top 10%, some are more subjective in the evaluation. So if you apply, don't be surprised if you don't get interviews at certain places, but at the ones you do, know that they are seriously considering you and make it count.

I got in.

Congrats! Florida?

this is off topic but can someone help me by telling me how to post a thread?

endowhat,

Congrats!

Question; mind sharing your reason for choosing USC off the bat and not even checking out other programs to compare?

Also, SC is pretty stiff in cost....any concerns?

I had a question. I have interviews at loma linda on August 19th. I also have one at VA Long Beach on sept 11th. If by some miracle I get accepted by Loma Linda can I say yes and then change my mind if long beach also accepts me? I'm am really nervous because LB is my number one choice but is also my last interview. thanks

echecchio,

Many are in the same situation you are. Unfortunately if you go to an interview and are accepted life becomes difficult. You have two options 1) accept and cancel all remaining interviews or 2) decline, roll the dice and go to your next interview. When you accept a position you usually sign a form "intent to enroll" and send the school money. Breaking this would be bad form. The endo community is small especially in SoCal. You would see the LLU program director and residents at monthly meetings when all the LA residencies get together. If you broke your commitment to another program outside CA you will also see that program director at AAE annual conference.

LLU is great program. It is more expensive but you get a more well rounded education. VA Long Beach is also a great program and cheaper but more self-taught. Either way you win. If you get into LLU be thankful. I wouldn't decline. VA is interviewing 18 people for 2 spots... not good odds.

Just got a phone call from the program director at LSU. Interviews will be held on the 20th of Aug.

8-8 Columbia
8-9 Harvard
8-13 West Virginia
8-20 LSU
8-27 MUSC
9-12 Albert Einstein

Sounds like everyone is having a pretty good start to this cycle. Lets keep it up.

Best of luck to all!

What about LLU? How many people are they interviewing? and any idea when UCLA will start their interviews?

Agreed, I think directors are definitely looking for a "well-rounded" candidate
Congrats to everyone with interviews....

Baylor 8/13
West Virginia 8/13
UTHSCSA 8/20
Ohio State 8/21
Minnesota 9/6
Indiana 9/10

Anyone heard from Illinois at Chicago or Oregon?

Anyone have any idea how long LLU has historically taken to notify acceptees after the interview date?

Also, I hear about not answering the phone as a way to postpone your time limit on having to give an intent to enroll. Anyone have any experience with this? I would assume they just leave a message or email and that starts your clock ticking or at best you could postpone a day or two but that they would eventually move on if they don't hear from you?

I don't know about length of time before notification. I do know many programs will notify their top prospects either at the interview of within 2 days of interview. They will give those applicants 2 days to 2 weeks to accept of decline. If they decline the program will then notify and new applicant. So on and so forth. Thus length of time s/p interview could be short or long.

Acceptance clock starts from date of notification. I know if notified in letter format or email this will be clearly stated and date will be noted. If via phone I would assume they will most likely state please call us back by such and such date. If they don't hear back from you they will assume you decline and offer your spot to someone else.

Does anyone know what LLU means by the digital test on molar tooth? Is it only access or also clean and shape? should we bring our own files?..any past applicants that have gone through LLU interview?

JSOS - Thanks, I hope somebody else knows LLU's MO specifically ...?

I am wondering this too, plus some ... do they have us obturate? If so, warm vertical or cold lateral? I am assuming we are not working under a microscope, are loupes allowed?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry for not updating.... Attending Harvard (accepted 8/13)

Declined interviews form: Houston, UConn, Penn, Maryland, UIC, Tufts, BU, UCLA and Columbia.

I found this thread and the ones from previous years very helpful. If I can help/contribute in any way please let me know. Best of luck to everyone applying!

Orgodox!

Congrats on Harvard! I think there is someone else on this forum who is also attending Harvard.

I don't want to intrude on anyone, but I thought this was a forum to share; and I was disappointed no one is very active lately!

I was wondering if you don't mind if i email you with some questions/seek advice ?

thanks!
