So the question set up a scenario where the pituitary stalks were transected and then it asked which hormones would be increased. I remember from rote memorization that dopamine suppresses prolactin tonically so if that tonic control is lost then prolactin will increase....

My question is...

1) how is the anterior pituitary producing prolactin if the stalk has been severed? wouldn't necrosis take place if it lost it's blood supply from the pituitary stalk? (my understanding is the stalk is how the AP gets its blood)

2) how is the prolactin getting into the blood if the stalk has been cut? (same rationale as before....if the stalk is cut and the capillaries are lost then how would the hormone hit hte blood stream)

TL;DR wtf.
