Going to do a presentation on GERD, focusing on the Nissen fundoplication, at our private hospital this week. Thought I would talk about the endoscopic treatments being developed as a sort of point-of-interest bit.

Has anyone seen these or formed an opinion on their use / efficacy / future role in treatment on GERD? Just curious. (More looking for anecdotes, NOT asking for people to do my homework ... I'm on it!)

Thanks

By endoscopic treatment, are you referring to endocinch plication? If so, it seems that it produces pretty good initial results but not quite that good over time, probably because the stitches just degrade. There's also the Stretta catheter, but there haven't been many studies documenting its long-term effectiveness because it's fairly new and it seems to work best in pediatric GERD. It seems like for long term results, lap Nissen is still the way to go.

I think there's a good chapter on this in Cameron's Current Surgical Therapy that might be worth checking out.....
