so how many scopes does one need to be board eligible? we thought it had been increased this year to 80 cscopes and 50 EGDs, from 50 cscopes and 35 EGDs. However, ACGME website still says in defined category report that 85 scopes are needed. Do you guys know?

not an answer.... but a good subject anyway.

I bet getting 80 cscopes in alot programs will take alot of ingenuity.
I think the 80 number comes from all the discrimination the GI labs place on surgeons to get "credentialed"
It is amazing how we let those guys box out surgeons.

Currently the ACGME website still says 50 colonoscopies and 35 upper GI scopes. I haven't heard of any changes this year but I'll ask around to be sure.

So far it remains 50 and 35. Be aware though that there is a difference between becoming board eligible and receiving priviledges to actually do the procedure. At my hospital, I had to have 100 of each in order to obtain priviledges. Ridiculous how I can do 35 lap colons and have no problems getting priviledges, but to put a flexible scope inside the colon, that requires100. So on my 2nd to last day as chief, I was going my 102nd colonoscopy. 😀

All for now, go back to your cheese quesadilias.
As always, I remain your servant, the Great Saphenous!!!!!
