if 500 g copper at 300 Celsius is placed in contact w/ an equal mass of aluminum, at 0 Celsius, what will be the final temperature of the whole mass, assuming no heat loss to surroundings (suppose it takes twice as much heat to heat 1 gram of aluminum as it does to heat a gram of copper) ?

Anyone knows how to solve it? Thank you.















The correct answer is 100 Celisus.
 
Just use the conservation of energy principle, all the heat lost by the copper will be gained by th e aluminum since no heat is lost to the surroundings.

heat lost by copper = heat gained by aluminum
mass of copper*specific heat of copper * (delta T)= mass of aluminum* specific heat of aluminum.

m*c*(300-x)= m*2c*(x-0) since specific heat of alu. is twice copper and mass is same

m & c cancel out, and if u solve for x, x=100
