Hi, I am from Ontario, Canada. Recently, I have been thinking of doing undergrad in engineering before applying to medical school. As it is, engineering is difficult for many students. The closest university to me is of course U of T.

U of T is notorious for their curving of marks yet it is perhaps the best school for engineering. What is fascinating about U of T is that it has a research based program, which can be handy when applying to medical school. Because of its notoriety for being extremely hard, I do not want to consider U of T engineering (but any feedback will be appreciated). I was thinking more of Waterloo engineering but I do not whether it has any research component. Can someone from Waterloo or anywhere else, give me feedback on their engineering school?

As it is, can anyone give me any advice on whether I am doing the right thing by applying to/doing Engineering (as my undergrad after which I want to go to medical school) which is a difficult program?

Thank you.

in the end, the things that will matter most are: GPA and MCAT.

if i were you, i would select an undergraduate program in which it is EASY to perform well - this will translate into a higher GPA. obviously, "easy" is a relative term... but the general consensus is that engineering doesn't fit into that category.

you'd be surprised, medical schools give very little weight to which major you choose as an undergraduate. that's why schools specifically say that you can pick whichever educational program you prefer: music, art, general bio, environmental science, etc.

long story short, do something that will give you the highest GPA possible, and will simultaneously help you in preparing for the MCAT.
