hi all,

I had a quick question about the english requirement.

would an english class (English 80K for UCBers) about Children's literature qualify as part of this requirement? I'm a little worried about it being viewed as non-legit, despite it counting for 4 units and being treated like any other english class (e.g. critical reading, analysis, papers, exams, etc.).

if it is an english in your school then it counts.

most medical schools want some sort of writing intensive course.

Does Comparative Literature count? The course title is

i hope comparative literature counts. i'm taking a comp lit class over the summer. I expect that it should count, because the department title deals with literature, the classes deal with literature in English, and the classes are writing intensive, and esp. since your course is an R1A/R1B.

i'm not sure though, because i dont' know anything about the specifics of the english requirement. for instance, would classics courses count? what about things like rhetoric?

Probably not. I think it should say English or Literature somewhere in the course department or course title. Not sure though.

Usually they accept any writing intensive course. Many of the schools I have spoken to take upper level history courses with a lot of writing. Typically these require some letter from your school saying they were writing intensive and they fulfilled some writing requirement of your school.

Other schools specifically require courses offered by the English dept. But these courses must be writing. A course in poetry may not be good enough.

Ask the school, it would be better info than anything broad that you can get here.

The info is also usually on the schools FAQ site.

No it would not.

anything that satisfies the r1a/r1b counts. i e-mailed some med schools and they said that. apparently things like slavic r5a or german r5a satisfy the english requirement.
