Hi I'm in need of an enlightened path from fellow SDNers.

I got a D- in my biochemistry lab and I recently took my DAT (AA 20, TS 20, RC 20, QR 21, BIO 19, Gchem 19, Orgo 20, PAT 17). This is my second time taking the DAT and I got a AA of 18 and TS of 20 and PAT of 19 first time. With a sGPA of 2.5 and cGPA of 2.8 I know there is no way in h*ll I will get in if I apply this cycle. I am planning on going to SDSU for an informal postbac (open university) because I can't even getting into a SMP or anything similar.

1. Should I retake my Biochem lab @ SDSU? or where I took that class from? for sure if I retake it at where I took it (UCLA), the grade would be "replaced".

2. IF I were to apply this cycle, should I rewrite my personal statement including an explanation to why I got a D-?

It seems like the fastest time for me to get into a dschool would be another 3 years? SIGH

It sounds like the D- in your biochem lab is the least of your worries. If your science gpa is a 2.5, im guessing you did poorly in more important science classes? Your DAT scores are good but of course your gpa is lacking. If you were going to re-write your personal statement, I would talk about why your entire science gpa is so low, not just your D- in biochem lab, this just strikes me as odd, do you have other more important science classes that you did poorly in?

well all my ochem pre-reqs are C+, bio 3 and 4 are C...those were the PRE-REQs i did bad in...other classes that aren't prereqs for dschool but needed for my major (biology) I got Cs as well... Im planning on retaking all the prereqs I got Cs in as well as some other classes that I did bad in...

Thats seems like it would take up some time then, I think if you just totally turn it around and take those courses and smoke them and take some additional courses, I would say re-try at 2 years. Remember your DAT scores are only good for 3 years and haul a** in the classroom! When you re-write your personal statement, include how and why you turned around your grades, dont focus on a single class and why you did poorly, the PS is done so they can get to know you, not find out why you got a D- in biochem lab, thats the least important bad grade out of all your pre-reqs listed. Hope it works out for you, good luck!
