I'm going to take Organic Chem over the summer at a state school but I heard the labs are gpa sinker there so I want to take the lab component at my current university; I like the way the labs are run at my current university.

Is it a really bad idea for me to take the lab component of Orgo this year before taking the lecture component over next summer? (i did take most of orgo 1 last year but ended up dropping it so i have some background of orgo...)

If you've already taken some, I don't see why not. You'd just have to teach yourself a bit.

But I'd check with your course reqs first. At my uni, you can't take labs if you don't have credit for/aren't taking the lecture.

If you're allowed to I think it should be okay. At my school, learning stuff/doing well in the lab had little to do with knowing the lecture content. A lot of the lab was just following instructions and synthesizing compounds and it didn't really matter if, for instance, you didn't know how the reaction worked.

I would say if you have some orgo1 you should be okay...however most schools passing orgo1 is a prereq for the lab...also depends on how good your lab book is...

This.

A monkey could do organic lab. Now if the labs have quizzes, you might be SOL.

Draw the structure of polyvinyl alcohol (slime) <--Hardest question on the lab final.

yeah like these guys said, lab is just a matter of following directions well. but if they ask you conceptual questions, you'll be at a disadvantage.

the lab is mostly different from the lecture, but I wouldn't recommend it..

I wouldn't recommend this. But I don't know how the labs are structured at your school. I would tread lightly; maybe have a back-up plan if you realize you need to drop the lab?

You had a lab final? What bull **** is that?

My schools lab final was straight out of hell. You could have an A in lecture and still not understand a single of the lab finals questions. I actually think the majority of students just guessed on the final.

I had an A up until the lab final. 😡
Freaking B+.
