Alright, I'm super confused right now about entering coursework and it seems difficult to find a straight up answer so please help!

I attend UWO in London, Ontario (Canada). We work on a semestered basis where a full course that runs all year (September-April, both semesters) is considered 1.0 and a half course which is one semester is 0.5.

For Term Type is it semester or unit? Becase on the back of the transcript the first lien reads as A full course (1.0 units)

Should I be entering the course credit exactly as listed on my transcript (1.0 or 0.5) or converting 1.0=4 hours. I would have thought to enter it exactly as I see it but then in the optomcas explanation area it goes on to say "At times, a credit conversion may be necessary (e.g. 1.00 credit = 4 semester hours)."

May I'm overthinking this all but right now, I'm pretty confused 😕

Just got off the phone with optomCAS and was told
1.0 course = 6 credit hours
0.5 course = 3 credit hours
and its necessary to enter the credit hours. New problem, is this does not take into account classes with labs and now I am confused as to how to specify which classes had a lab component....:scared:

I went to the university of waterloo and we have a 0.5 credit system for 1 course (we are semestered) and 0.25 for labs. I was told 1 course = 3 credits. If the class has a lab component included, then its 4 credits. so if you have a full year...that'd be 6 credits and a lab included I think total you'd have 8. Hope that helps a bit!

idk about canadian schools, but I think if you print out your transcripts from the internet, it should have the credits there? or maybe you should call the school you attend?

(I haven't found anything that explicitly stated this but) the American system is either the quarter system (four 'semesters' per year) or the semester system (three per year). The semester system is the same as in Canada. As for 'credit hours' it's how many hours you spend per week (you might have a few minutes between classes so it's rounded to the hour). Three hours per week is typical. Coming from Waterloo I had the same 0.5/0.25 conundrum. Following their examples I put lectures as 3, lectures with lab as 4, and labs alone as 1.5. The lab thing is somewhat odd since you still spend 3hr/week for it itself but Waterloo says they're worth half.

Microbiology at Waterloo was odd: the first course had a separate lab but the second was integrated (courses: 140/140L and 241).

P.S. I put term type as unit. I never had a course more than one semester long either. If it's one grade for the length of two courses then double the number of hours (3 to 6), as they suggested.
