Hey everyone, I read the AMCAS instruction manual, but I'm still a little confused on how to enter lab course work.

On my transcript, where I have classes with lab grades included, it looks like this:
General Microbiology | 3.00 | A
General Microbiology Lab | 0.00 | NC (meaning no credit)

On my AMCAS app, do I actually list two separate classes, and just put 0 credits and NC grade for the lab, or do I just enter General Microbiology, and choose the radio button that says Lecture w/Lab? Do I only actually add the lab as a seperate entry if I actually received a grade in that lab, and that grade is listed on my transcript? Thanks alot!

Just to be sure Brett, I've gone through AMCAS and I haven't seen a heading called supplmentary hours. But I still enter in the Lab class even though I've received no credit for it? If you say so I'll go with it..I just wanted to make sure.

They will process it under supplementary hours. Read the "Manual" and you will see how they deal with NC classes. Since it doesn't affect your GPA, they form a separate category.

Lol, alright Brett, one last question. So, now that I"m also adding a separate entry for my lab class, would I still click the "Lecture w/ Lab" radio button for the lecture part that actually counts for credits? Or should I make the lecture says "lecture only" and the lab say "lab only". I think I should do the former because the lab grade is included in the lecture grade, but I just wanted to be sure.

To follow this up, on my transcript only some of my science courses that also have NC lab components are listed a la doctajay's. The rest of the courses are not listed separately. Should I be consistent in listing both the lecture and lab together and then selecting "lecture + lab", or should I do them differently depending on exactly how they are listed on the transcript? BTW, I'm not sure why the transcript has them listed differently, I think it's just bureaucratic red tape.

I'd stick with the transcript. Thats what they will be cross verifying off of.

Hey Solitude, my transcript has the same thing. For my freshman year 1st semester, it has General Biology just like that, "General Biology". For my second semester it has "General Biology" and "General Biology Lab". I think the whole fact of the matter is to just list it as it is listed on your transcript. So that everything matches up. Thats what I"m giong to do.

Alright, sounds good. Thanks for the help Doctajay and Brett.

Just list what your transcript says, my school is so screwed up I had some labs that were included into the final grade in a 4 credit class, and others that were a seperate credit from lecture 🙄

Another question, if my transcript doesnt indicate a lab section in a course (although a lab section actually was part of the course, as indicated in the catalog), I'm assuming I just go by the transcript and say there wasn't a lab?

You follow the transcript in terms of how it looks. So if General Biology is listed on your transcript as just "General Biology" and you know that you had a lab, then you click "Combined Lecture and Lab". But if "General Biology" and "General Biology Lab" is listed separately, then you would click "Lecture Only" for the former and "Lab Only" for the latter (sp?).

Thanks!

I actually found this in the instructions within AMCAS.

Enter designations for all of your lab course work exactly as they appear on the official transcript. If the lab credit is included with the lecture course credit, append the phrase "and lab" to the exact course title as it appears on the official transcript. For example, if "General Chemistry II" appears on the official transcript and lab credit is included with the lecture course credit, enter "General Chemistry II and Lab" and indicate "Yes" in response to the question, "Did this course include a lab section?"

I've been looking everywhere for an answer to a related question and have not yet had much success.

BIOL-105L General Biology I Lab - -

BIOL-105 General Biology I - A - 4.00

When it comes to entering coursework like this, is the appropriate route to go ahead and list them separately (as noted above) but to list those lab sections as "exempt"? 0 credit?

Thanks in advance for any help
