There was a discussion on this a few months back, but briefly
7-8 yrs of training. Lifestyle after training is pretty good, 2-3 days of clinic /wk, procedures the rest of the time. The vast majority of cases are elective, very few emergencies. However, many jobs require you to take general cardiology call, or to do some ammount of general cards in addition to EP. Salary wise, on par with, perhaps slightly lower than interventional cardiology ~ 300K starting if you're willing to go the midwest/south, with significant increases after becoming a partner.
Cons: Long training period, long cases, lots of radiation exposure.
But its a fascinating field, esp. if you have a background in engineering or math.
