Any tips for EPPP tutors? I keep failing this damn exam but i feel so close.
I know that you said length of study time didn't matter, but how much did you study each time? What kind of study materials/methods have you been using?
Most will say that taking practice quizzes and practice exams, and retaking practice exams, and taking some more practice exams, will be the key to success. Most study programs offer practice quizzes and tests as part of their packages. They are a HUGE help because not only do you learn the content; more importantly you learn the wording of the questions and how to determine the "best" response from the choices.
For me, I failed the first time. I had used older study materials, and also purchased audio study materials and only did maybe 2 practice exams. Older study materials can be ok for refreshing your memory on all the concepts and theories and information learned in grad school, but it's passive studying and doesn't prep you for test taking or applying the information as well as you can.
The second time I passed. The difference: I used study materials that were structured alongside quizzes, practice exams, and audio study materials. For example, quizzes would provide a reason for why a response was the "best" response not just based on what was learned but based on the wording of the question itself. The practice exams and quizzes were without a doubt the difference in failing vs passing for me. It's active learning that combines refreshing memory on material AND learning how to answer the questions.
Length of time spent studying didn't seem to matter in either my first or second time.
IMO spending your study money on study materials that include what I mentioned in last paragraph is going to be a better use of your time and money than a tutor. You want to learn how to pick the best answer given the wording and question, not needing to know everything about the topic of the question.
You'll probably get more replies on here with recommendations for study materials, test taking strategies, and practice tests as well.
Keep your head up, failing the EPPP isn't a reflection of your knowledge or your skills, how you study/prepare is more important than what you know for the purposes of the EPPP.
I have a little bit of everything (recycled aatbs, psych prep, etc.) I think I just need strategies which is why I was thinking of getting a tutor. What kind of study materials/methods have you been using?

Definitely good to recognize when need a little extra support. That said, IMO, I would save the money and spend it on purchasing practice quizzes/tests (like the online ones ) and audio guides rather than a tutor. The recycled stuff you mentioned, those companies offer them and some the packages are highly structured in a set order and learning path.I have a little bit of everything (recycled aatbs, psych prep, etc.) I think I just need strategies which is why I was thinking of getting a tutor.
