In FA the order is,
4 hours - Acute Dystonias
4 days - Akathisia
4 weeks - Bradykinesia
4 months - TD

I read in Kaplan and other online resources where it says Bradykinesia comes before Akathisia. In Kaplan it says Akathisia occurs in week 10 of neuroleptic use. What's the correct order?
Thanks.

From Adams and Victor's Principles of Neurology, 9th Edition:
Period of maximum risk for development of extrapyramidal symptoms associated with neuroleptic-antipsychotic agents
  • Acute dystonia: 1-5 days
  • Parkinsonism: 1-4 weeks
  • Akathisia: Can start immediately and usually persists
  • Tardive dyskinesia: 6-120 months
So both Kaplan and FA are mostly correct. I've found the list in the Boards&Wards book to be the easiest to remember (5th edition, p. 355):
  • Acute dystonia: 4 hours --> 4 days
  • Parkinsonism: 4 days --> 4 months
  • TD: 4 months --> 4 years
  • Akathisia: Any time
  • NMS: Any time

Got it! Thanks 🙂
