Job Summary

Serves as the clinical and administrative leader of the Emergency Medicine Department at CMMC and acts as Regional Medical Director for EDs at Bridgton and Rumford Hospital.

· Reports to the Division Chief of Hospital Based Providers

· Administrative time of 20 hours per week, or a 0.5 FTE, is allotted for this position as single director

· Provide leadership, planning, organization, staffing, coordination, and evaluation for emergency department at CMMC and coordinates activities with Rural Medical Directors

· Works with the CMMC Hospital Medical Staff and Administration to set and meet or exceed defined objectives for quality, customer service, financial performance, human resource development, and growth

· Collaborates with nursing leadership to ensure that departmental performance meets or exceeds standards as described in Medical Staff bylaws, hospital policies, departmental policies, and the Joint Commission requirements

· Maintains an awareness of national and local clinical standards and benchmarks appropriate for emergency medicine service. Specifically attuned to the benchmarks set by the Emergency Department Benchmarking Alliance

· Set standards for evidence-based, cost-effective practice

· Establishes, implements, and maintains the ED Quality Assurance/Risk Management program

· Reviews any adverse case outcomes, patient/staff complaints or cases with legal concerns

· Ensures that emergency department providers properly document patient-physician interface

· Coordinates periodic performance reviews and ongoing performance feedback for providers in accordance with CMMG guidelines and Medical Staff policies

· Provides time for counseling, advice, information, and general support to providers and other department managers

· Ensures that regional and departmental policies are distributed, understood, and implemented by emergency medicine providers

· Serves as a liaison to ensure that the emergency department has effective communications with patients, families, hospital administrators and managers, referring providers and referring hospitals, nursing leadership and clerical supervisors, medical staff members, pre-hospital and EMS agencies, and the community

· Monitors community needs and provides significant input into the EMS system and disaster planning

· Establishes, reviews and assists with compliance of ED budget for ED providers for all ED sites

· Work in coordination with Practice Manager and outside departments (HIM, Coding, PFS) to enable appropriate coding, billing and financial charge disputes

· Recommends capital equipment and facilities purchases for the emergency department

· Coordinates Emergency Preparedness services in the ED with ED Nursing leadership, CMMC Emergency Preparedness, CMMC administration and appropriate department in and outside of CMMC.
