ERAS application

I see that most everyone I know is trying to do some form of research for their application, but when I talked w/ my program director he made it sound like it wasn't necessary unless I planned to do research in the future. I have no plans to do research in the future but do want to look good for the match, anyone with an idea about need for research in OB/GYN for ERAS application?

I didn't do any research and matched at my top choice which is a well-known university-based program. I got interviews at 14/15 places I applied. That said, I was extremely active with other extracurricular activities during med school, primarily in the realm of community service. I don't know that that made a difference, but my resume was not entirely devoid of anything but my GPA.
