I am asking this just for curiosity. When did residency applications switched from paper applications to ERAS?

Sorry, but I have my doubts. I remember even in late 90's FMGs use to send paper residency application. Could it be possible they have started it in 1995 but fully implemented it later on. Remember USMLE application (at least for FMGs who were using ECFMG) could have been sent either by paper or electronically years ago but it was made electronic only in middle of last decade.

Although ERAS was founded in 1995, I don’t think every specialty started using it right off the bat. I started residency in the late 1990’s and distinctly remembering getting tongue cramps and lacerations from all of the stamps and envelopes involved in the application process.

Exactly. It started with OBGYN, adding a few specialties every year and still expanding to include fellowship programs.

Then why ask?

Yep...I applied for two specialties way back when - one used ERAS and the other participated in the NRMP but we still had to send in paper apps.
