Hi! I’m a third-year med student who will be applying to residency next year but was looking at the pdf application that brought this on.
About 10 years ago, before medical school, I had a disciplinary issue related to a healthcare job that I was let go from, and it also resulted in a temporary suspension from my undergraduate institution. It was a mistake I deeply regret and learned from. The suspension was temporary, and my understanding was that the disciplinary record would be removed from the school record completely after a certain number of years. There was no criminal charge or any fees associated.
Since then, I’ve gone through multiple background checks for medical school and clinical rotations, and the issue has never come up.
ERAS asks whether there is anything in your past history that would limit your ability to be licensed or receive hospital privileges. The thing about hospital privileges is stressing me out a bit. I don’t think I’m going to apply there anyway but want to know if I should worry more or research more.
I’m planning to speak with a licensing attorney as well, but wanted to see if anyone here has any insight.
