Essay Editors?

Hi,
Can anyone comment on whether it is worth paying for those online editing services? The grammar in my paper is great but im not sure about the ideas. Can anyone recommend a site that isnt egregiously over-priced? Something closer to $50 than $100; Thanks!

I doubt essay editting services can help much with ideas, theyre more style and grammar experts. Anyhow, Essay edge is 90 dollars or so.

But if you would go back and look through old posts, you would see that most people think editing services are good for grammatical, mechanical aspects, but definitely not for personality. If your PS has no personality to begin with, its only going to be flowing and impersonal after the editing service. You will also see that some people say that editors have a tendency to make all the essays they edit sound similar, sometimes even using the same sentences in multiple essays.

I would suggest finding the thread that lists about 30 SDNers willing to read PSs, and asking a few for help. Thats what I did and I think it was much better than paying for an editing service. Plus, you will be able to converse with the SDN editors and get them to look at more than one draft...not possible for the lowest rung on the editing services.

One word of advice, though, if you do use the editing service, don't let money be a factor. YOu are already going to drop a few grand on the apps process, whats an extra 50 bucks to have it done well?

Honestly, you get what you pay for... and $50-$100 is kinda meh if you ask me. I guess it's depends on your level of confidence that the essay is fundamentally sound. Spelling and grammar are easy peasy - but essay structure, organization, content are far trickier.

I would disagree on this. Copy editors are readily available as freelance for all sorts projects at very cheap rates. They will do a good job on more than grammar and making sure the story flows. We are talking $25-$50

I'm just going to assume that you've actually seen some of the final product from these services... I would disagree with your claim of "good job," especially in the context of high stakes applications, but that said, call it a difference of opinions, I suppose.

Now the real question is, did you end up using a copy edit service and was it any good? Did the advice given in this thread change your life for the better? Maybe you were always meant to be a cardiologist and this thread sent you down the wrong path....
