What are your opinions on them? I am in the process of writing something for entrance into a post-bacc course. IMHO it is coming a long quite nicely, and I am pleased with the way it is progressing, but I worry about my writing style. I write in a business way - very bullet point; no fluff, v. short with stories, etc. Gaining entrance into this program is very important to me, and I am willing to spend $100 for a review if it is worth it. Is it? Is this practice frowned upon? Have admissions learnt the style of these companies, and keep an eye for them?

Thanks.

I think a better way to go would be to try to find a writing advisor of sorts at your school. My honors program has one, so you could try that venue, or maybe an English professor you've had in the past? It should be free, and you can get one-on-one feedback.

I used a medical school admissions consultant for my essays into post bacc programs. Before I sent my draft to the consultant, I thought I did a nice job of writing it, but she found several things to change based on what the schools will be looking for.

My opinion, if you can afford a consultant, use one. Especially if the program is a competitive one. Just be careful and look at their credentials. Make sure they were on adcoms and were reviewing essays. I used Judy Colwell and got in to the post bacc I wanted. She is very good.

I am definately leaning towards using one - if it increases my chances, it is money well spent IMHO.
