Haven't used the service, but personally, I'd rather have someone on this board read it and also run it by some of my profs/other folks you think can give you a good critique.

I agree with Y.

Have a prof or English major read it for sense and grammatics.

Have some trusted folks read it for candor, charisma and meaning toward purpose.

Laws of probability say that the more people you add, the more will completely diagree with what you have to say. You don't want that. Make sure your grammar is good and that your essay doesn't sound completely ******ed.

90 bucks ain't much in the whole scheme of the application process, and for that much you'll get a person experienced with editting application essays and dedicated to making you happy. I'd say go for it.

And yes, asking 10 ordinary people to read it often nets in 10 different opinions.

don't waste your money. just make sure your essay doesn't have grammatical/spelling errors, that it makes you sound half-way intelligent, and that it engages the reader and makes you sound worth interviewing. those essay services are a joke, sdn and some common sense is good enough. you can pay me the money you would give otherwise to an essay service...how about i even give a 50% of discount? 😛

Do a search. People have been discussing this since the site began. You'll find tons of opinions on these editings services.

I've used this service before. I was thinking, "hey, i'll spend 100 bucks and be done with my PS, that's definitely worth it..."

but this was not the case.

considering we've gotten this far i'd say that most of us can write reasonably well. the essayedge helps your essay sound more fluid (adjusts wordiness) and adds transitions where you might lack them. However, the end result is a very AMCA-personal-statement kind of work.

I brought mine to the premed advisor after essayedge and she said that it lacked the "personal" appeal that is so lacking in many of the essays. In the end, i rewrote my PS like i was talking to a friend, and my advisor liked it.

i'd say some people might most def benefit from it, but it's not for everyone.

Don't bother. There has got to be a number of good english students/professors you know that will give equally good advice. Why waste any more money than you have too.

Probably not worth it. Although, it's not outrageously expensive, so if you have no other proofreading sources then it probably wouldn't hurt. Other than the $$$ of course.

It depends on your writing style. If you are already a good writer, then it's a waste of moola. If your writing tends to be too wordy, then it's a good service to make your essay succinct. They do try to keep your tone in the essay, so don't worry about them altering your voice in the essay. If you do decide to use the service, though, check for coupons online. There are 10 or 15% off coupons floating about somewhere.
