I was recently rejected by my state school (3.9 GPA 21 DAT). I am thinking of establishing residency elsewhere and reapplying. Is it possible for me to establish residency WHILE applying? I would move in May-June and apply in that same time frame.

Each state is different so it really depends on what state you are trying to move to. Sometimes you need to own land, or have a job, or pay state income taxes for a few years. I all I know is that lots of my classmates are trying to establish to get in state tuition and they are telling me that it isn't easy!

what state is it?

normally u gotta pay tax for 1 year with full time job to establish residence, normally unless schools let u change residence after application (ucon, unlv) u can't establish residence during app cycle. which means 1 year to establish residence + 1 year applying. you are looking at 2 more years waiting at least.

Connecticut would be nice. Their state school is super cheap. Basically anywhere that has cheap tuition would be good.

It makes no sense; If I moved to Texas tomorrow with all intentions of living there, why should I not declare myself as a TX resident on my application?
You apply however you want to apply, but when the time comes to pay your tuition you would have to have been in the state for a year prior to first day of school in order to be eligible for in-state tuition.

At least that is how it worked out for me with undergrad as I moved from one state to another for my senior year of hs. And btw we don't pay state income tax, so having a job is definitely not a requirement for being a state resident.

Most states have a stipulation that if your intent to move to that state is for going to school you cannot become a resident. You would need to live in that state for a year before applying so factor in that lost year of income, additional costs for applying to see if you really will save money doing that. There are some schools that will allow you to gain residency while you are in school, however so it would have been a good idea to apply to those schools. Did you only apply to your state school this year?
