How does one go about establishing residency? How long do you have to live in a state to be considered a resident? This can have a significant impact on how much tuition one has to pay. Thanks

that all varies from state to state. some schools u stay out of state all 4 years while others its possible to gain residency after one year. i am not sure of a good resource that outlines all the state policies.

You're pretty much going to have to search for each state's policy individually. I wish there was some kind of site that easily had all the information compiled, that'd be helpful.

contact the school or go to their website. the dental school's requirements for establishing residency for the purpose of in state tution may be slightly different than what's required for just general residency

I know New Jersey is really cool about giving students state residency. I heard you may even be able to get in-state residency your first year of school there, but this could be hearsay. E-mail UMDNJ if you're interested.

I think NY is cool about it as well (however, good luck getting into SB as an OOS applicant). Try Buffalo.

I also believe Ohio is a state that is easy to gain residency. I don't think you need to own property or have a job, meaning students can get in-state status after Year 1.
