At least one of the places I have an interview at has time set aside during the interview day to attend a conference (? surg path slides, ? lecture?)

Any thoughts on the accepted etiquette for attending these? I figure the options include anywhere along the spectrum from sitting quietly to shouting out responses to everything. Obviously I don't want to sit quietly if they are looking for participation, but don't want to participate and be a brown-nosing snot if this is meant for residents. Nothing more annoying than having an outsider monopolize a conference...

Frowned upon? Encouraged? Doesn't matter?

Sometimes when you are waiting for the red sox game you have too much time to think...

I've been to departmental conferences (as a student on a service) where the applicants have chimed in and uniformly it was an uncomfortable experience.

From a resident's perspective, follow the advice of Crepitus. Don't offer any answers unless directly asked. Trying to answer things will make you look arrogant and make a bad impression on most of the residents you are trying to impress.

That's pretty much what I was expecting - thanks for your responses. Just wanted to make sure that my assumptions were founded in reality.
